Print settings in a .3mf
The 3MF specification does not cover print settings. Each slicer stores them its own way, so settings rarely survive a move to another slicer.
Where does each slicer put them?
| Slicer | File | Format |
|---|---|---|
| PrusaSlicer | Metadata/Slic3r_PE.config |
INI |
| Bambu Studio | Metadata/project_settings.config |
JSON |
| OrcaSlicer | Metadata/project_settings.config |
JSON |
| Creality Print | Metadata/project_settings.config |
JSON |
| Cura | inside 3D/3dmodel.model |
XML metadata |
Why does one setting have several names?
| Slicer | Nozzle temperature key |
|---|---|
| PrusaSlicer | temperature |
| Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Creality Print | nozzle_temperature |
| Cura | material_print_temperature |
Print settings by name maps 60 settings across all five.
What happens when I open a file in another slicer?
The geometry and placement come across. The settings do not, because the other slicer ignores a file it did not write. Use Convert to carry them.
Where is this specified?
Each slicer defines its own settings in source, not a shared spec:
PrusaSlicer's PrintConfig.cpp
names every PrusaSlicer and Bambu-family key; Cura names its own in
fdmprinter.def.json.
