Common questions

Can I see inside a .3mf without a slicer?

Yes. Drop it on the page to see its settings, filaments, plates and mesh.

Is preslice free?

Yes, with no account and nothing to install.

Is there a desktop app?

Yes. Get preslice or preslice offline, for macOS, Windows and Linux, from the download page. It shows how to open the unsigned installers.

It shows under Open with for 3MF, STL and OBJ files and works offline.

Can I open an STL, an OBJ or a .gcode.3mf?

Yes. An STL or OBJ opens as itself: its mesh, with no settings. Click Convert to 3MF in the file list to save a .3mf copy beside it. A .gcode.3mf holds G-code for one printer, not editable settings.

Is preslice a slicer?

No. It reads 3MF, STL and OBJ files and edits .3mf files, but makes no G-code.

Does my file leave my computer?

No. The mesh, the file and its name stay in your browser. What leaves it.

Where are my files stored?

In your browser. Click Remove all in the header's file list to delete them.

Is a stranger's .3mf safe to open?

preslice runs six security checks and runs nothing inside the file. A failed check names the attack pattern it found. Read it before you open the file in a slicer.

Which slicers does preslice read?

PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Cura and Creality Print. Other files open for geometry only.

Why do settings have names like nozzle_temperature?

It is the name the slicer wrote, as in PrusaSlicer's PrintConfig.cpp.

Why does a Bambu file lose its settings in PrusaSlicer?

Each slicer reads only its own settings file. Convert carries them across: see Bambu Studio to PrusaSlicer.

Why does the file show no print settings?

It was exported as a model. Save it from the slicer as a project.

Can I change a setting?

Yes. Click the value, type a new one, and download yourfile_modified.3mf. Your original stays as it was. Click Revert on any change to undo it.

Can I convert to another slicer?

Yes. In the Convert tab, pick a slicer or your hardware, and download. Convert is in beta, so check the settings in your slicer before you print.

Where does my saved hardware go?

It stays in your browser until you convert with it. Convert sends the entries you pick. See what leaves your browser.

Why will my file not open?

It is usually damaged or not a real .3mf. The error names what failed. See troubleshooting.

How do I report a bug?

Email feedback@lovlar.dev, for bugs and feature requests, or post on r/preslice.
