Bambu Studio says its version is too low
Bambu Studio showed
Due to the lower version of Bambu Studio, this 3mf file cannot be fully loaded. Please update Bambu Studio to the latest version
(Plater.cpp).
Before you update, check who wrote the file: OrcaSlicer 2.0 to 2.3.2 writes its
own version number where Bambu Studio expects its own.
Can I print it anyway?
The model loads and the project settings do not. You can slice it with the printer and filament you had selected.
Why does Bambu Studio think it is too old?
It reads the writer from the file's Application stamp, and only trusts it
when it starts with BambuStudio-. OrcaSlicer 2.0 to 2.3.2 stamps
BambuStudio-2.3.1 for its own 2.3.1
(bbs_3mf.cpp).
Bambu Studio 1.x sees major version 2, which is higher than its own 1, and
refuses the settings. OrcaSlicer 2.4.0 and later stamp a Bambu Studio 2.6
version instead.
Will updating Bambu Studio fix it?
Yes, if you are on Bambu Studio 1.x. Any 2.x release reads a major version 2 stamp. A file from a real Bambu Studio 2.x opened in 1.x needs the same update.
What does the newer version dialog mean?
The 3mf file version is newer than the current Bambu Studio version.
with
Update your Bambu Studio could enable all functionality in the 3mf file.
(MsgDialog.cpp)
appears when only the minor version is newer. The file still loads with its
settings, and any setting your version does not know is dropped. MakerWorld
downloads show it whenever your Bambu Studio is behind the one that saved them.
How do I check the version with preslice?
- Drop the
.3mfon preslice.co. - Open the 3MF Content tab and expand Metadata.
- Read the
Applicationrow under 3MF Native.
BambuStudio-02.08.04.57 is Bambu Studio 2.8. BambuStudio-2.3.1, with no
leading zero, is OrcaSlicer. Compare the major version with the one in Bambu
Studio's About dialog.
Can I fix it without updating?
Not cleanly. A file converted with preslice is stamped as Bambu Studio 2.6, so Bambu Studio 1.x refuses it too. Open the file in the slicer that wrote it, or set the settings again by hand in your version.
What will still not carry?
Settings that only exist in the newer version. An OrcaSlicer project opened in Bambu Studio also loses Orca's own settings; see OrcaSlicer to Bambu Studio.
