Bambu Studio loads geometry data only

Did Bambu Studio open your .3mf with The 3mf is not from Bambu Lab, load geometry data and color data only. or The 3mf is generated by old Bambu Studio, load geometry data only.? Both come from the same check in Plater.cpp. The model is on the plate and the print settings are not.

Can I slice it anyway?

Yes. It prints with the printer, filament and process you had selected before you opened it. Nothing in the file changes those.

Why does Bambu Studio say this?

The file carries no print settings Bambu Studio can read. Which message you get depends on the writer the file names:

The file says it came from Message
No slicer: Fusion, Onshape, Blender, a CAD export not from Bambu Lab, load geometry data and color data only
Bambu Studio, or an app that copies its stamp, such as OrcaSlicer generated by old Bambu Studio, load geometry data only
PrusaSlicer not from Bambu Lab, load geometry data only

The first case keeps colours. The PrusaSlicer case has its own page: Bambu Studio says invalid config.

Is my file broken?

No. A CAD program only ever writes the shape. A slicer file that lands in the second row was saved without its project settings, so there was nothing to load.

What about Open as project and Import geometry only?

Bambu Studio asks Please select an action when you open a .3mf while the plate already holds objects (Plater.cpp). Open as project replaces the plate with the file, settings included. Import geometry only adds the parts to your plate and leaves the file's settings behind. Pick Open as project to keep them.

How do I get settings into the file with preslice?

Give the file a Bambu Studio project before you open it:

  1. Drop the .3mf on preslice.co.
  2. Open the Convert tab.
  3. Turn on the switch next to Change slicer, then click Bambu.
  4. Turn on the switch next to Change printer. Open the printer list and pick your Bambu Lab printer. Printers saved under My print settings are marked.
  5. Click Convert.
  6. Click the tab with your file name, then the button that starts with Download 3MF.

If the file already comes from Bambu Studio, there is no Bambu button. Skip step 3: Change printer alone gives it your printer's settings.

The download carries that printer's profile and filament, and opens in Bambu Studio as a project with the profile's default values.

Can I fix it by hand instead?

Yes. Let Bambu Studio load the geometry, pick your printer, filament and process in the left panel, and save the project. From then on the file opens with those settings.

What will still not carry?

Settings that were never in the file. A CAD export has no layer height or temperature to recover, so the result is a clean Bambu Studio default for the printer you picked. See what a conversion cannot carry.
