PrusaSlicer says Invalid 3MF format

PrusaSlicer refused your file with Error (Invalid 3MF format) while parsing, followed by a part name such as 3D/3dmodel.model and a line number. The message is built in 3mf.cpp, with Invalid 3MF format as the default reason (line 547).

Can I print it anyway?

Not from this copy in PrusaSlicer. Nothing loads. The slicer that wrote the file still opens it.

Why does PrusaSlicer say Invalid 3MF format?

Its reader hit a value it could not use in the named part, and stopped. A common one is a component that points at an object missing from the file (3mf.cpp). Most reports involve files from Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer, which split each object into its own part.

What does Loading of a model file failed mean?

Loading of a model file failed. (FileReader.cpp) means no reader accepted the file at all. Its sibling, The supplied file couldn't be read because it's empty, is a file of zero bytes. Both usually mean a download or a save that stopped early. Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer print the same two lines.

What does saved with a newer version mean?

The selected 3mf file has been saved with a newer version of PrusaSlicer and is not compatible. (3mf.cpp) appears when a newer PrusaSlicer wrote the file. Update to the version that saved it.

What about does not contain PrusaSlicer configuration?

The PrusaSlicer 3.0 alpha says The 3MF file does not contain PrusaSlicer configuration. Only geometry was loaded. (FileLoadingLogic.cpp) for a file from another slicer. The shapes are there and the settings are not.

Is my file broken?

Open it in preslice. If the 3D view shows every part, the file is whole and PrusaSlicer's reader is the problem. If preslice names a missing part or cannot open it, the file itself is damaged; see repair a .3mf.

How do I open it in PrusaSlicer with preslice?

  1. Drop the .3mf on preslice.co.
  2. Open the Convert tab.
  3. Turn on the switch next to Change slicer, then click Prusa.
  4. Click Convert.
  5. Click the tab with your file name, then the button that starts with Download 3MF.

Can I fix it by hand instead?

Open the file in the slicer that wrote it and export the plate as STL, then load the STL in PrusaSlicer. The shape comes across; every setting, colour and modifier stays behind.
